Introducing The Secret War: Spies, Codes and Guerrillas 1939-45

Max’s new book – publishing in September 2015 – is a portrait of the role played by espionage, code-breaking and intelligence in the Second World War.

See Max on BBC4 on Tuesday night, 22 September at 9pm in STORIES FROM THE FRONTLINE, an hour-long studio discussion on the experience of war corresponding with John Simpson, Jon Snow and Christiane Amanpour of CNN, followed at 1210am by a rescreening of Max’s 2012 BBCTV documentary THE FALKLANDS LEGACY

Much has been written about the soldiers, sailors and airmen but this is the first book to examine the successes and failures of the secret war from the perspective of all combatants. Like his earlier books, it draws upon original research – particularly from Russia – and will range over an international canvas, combining strategic analysis with startling individual stories of daring, deception and hardship.
